This is the final article of this series. We have been tracing our journey from CAN’Tto CAN over the past few weeks. Last week, we got introduced to people who make the impossible,‘possible’ and this week it’s about getting started… and following what we believe in!
When we have to get something done at work we always make it a point to make notes and follow them through and if you are an app junkie you find an app and make use of it sincerely. We make meticulous notes and set reminders to get things done at work. But, do we ever put pen to paper or finger to smartphone to plan our life?! I know things happen in life and as such cannot be planned, however, when we have to fulfill our personal dream or goal; we can and should plan it.
Yes, we just need to start. It is helpful to read inspiring articles and quotes, but what is the point of it all, if it is not put into action?! Why admire people’s achievements and have heroes when it doesn’t translate into something positive for you?
Using an example from my life might make it easy to understand how shifting our doubting thoughts to positive behavior can help us get started!! It’s not easy as it requires persistence to convince oneself that a goal can be achieved.
I don’t know how to cycle and when my husband offered to teach me, I was not sure. An inner skeptic said “I can’t learn to cycle, I’m too old. The voices in my head were loud and clear. Everyone will laugh and poke fun at you. Are you kidding? Ha…Ha…Ha”. But, after few moments alone, I asked myself what it meant to me to be able to cycle, how much I wanted it and I knew instantly that I wanted to cycle. I just told myself that I CAN. It has always been a dream. I decided to go for it. I decided that I can learn to cycle slowly with the right preparation and equipment. I made a plan and then I just needed to START. So,I would suggest just get started… Don’t let anyone say NO…not even your own inner voice
It was very embarrassing to learn how to cycle alongside my three year old but I persisted and worked very hard. I thought people around would look at me, laugh and ridicule but guess what…not a soul bothered! If I hadn’t gotten started by ignoring the voices in my head, I would have regretted not having learnt to cycle in this lifetime!
The episode of learning to cycle helped me realize that nothing is beyond reach but it doesn’t come easy. For everything in life we have to tell ourselves time and again… we can… get started and we will be on our way. Life is too short so it is best to get things underway. However, do not forget all of this requires patience, perseverance, keeping an eye on the goal and finally following what you believe in!
Remember: I believe I can, I will, I’ll win
