Dipti and Riya, two very close friends, discussing a topic of utmost importance – Marriage. Riya’s parents had been groom hunting for a while now. And this time they seemed to have found the perfect match- as per their criteria.
In a low tone, she asked Dipti, “Hey, what do you think about this person?”
Dipti, knowing this was too simple a question and not the one that was actually troubling Riya, took time to choose her words. “He’s educated, got a stable job. What do you feel? You have met him a couple of times. What with regards to his behaviour – with you, your family? Does he show respect? Riya nodding affirmatively, “He meets almost all the criteria, my parents had set for a perfect match for me.”
“That’s good, isn’t it?” Dipti nudged.
“That’s all fine. Last time, he took me to the best restaurant in town. We had a good time. In fact, I was late in reaching. He didn’t complain. And then he dropped me home. He’s caring”. Riya, still with that troubled look on her face, listed down these positives about the prospective groom.
The talk continued for about an hour or so. Riya asking questions and Dipti in turn replying back in questions. As if, answers were elusive.
Dipti realizing the importance of the true question quizzed “Riya, what is it that’s actually worrying you? I know you have started liking this guy. Whatever faults you might be finding with him, you know very well too, that these are just out shyness. What is your real concern?”
“Yaar Dipti, he’s just around my height. How would I wear my heels! I just love them. And with him, if I wear heels, I’ll look taller. And then everyone would laugh at us, make fun of us. Don’t you think so?”
After discussing almost every aspect, job, family, looks, nature, behaviour, this one thing- Riya’s love for heels was the least expected.
Dipti tried not to look at Riya, to ensure that some of her strange glances don’t trouble Riya. They had both known each other for a long long time. And Dipti felt, she knew Riya thorouhly. But this concern of Riya, she could never predict.
The Heels! Yes almost every girl loves them. But to what extent?
Every now and then we read about celebrities owning hundreds of pairs of shoes- The Guccis, Loubotins and McQueens.
But choosing your life partner on the basis of whether you could wear heels while going out with him or not.
May be the guy wasn’t even concerned, even if she looked taller to him. But who would ask him that.
