December 11, 2011 – New Delhi : Prominent Gandhian and Social Activist Anna Hazare began his fast at around 10:15 a.m. at Jantar Mantar, the protest hotspot in the capital, surrounded by a number of supporters who waved the tricolour, sporadically shouting slogans like ‘Vande Mataram’ and ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’.

Demanding the passage of a strong Lokpal Bill in the ongoing session, he said the session should be extended if “there is no time” for bringing the law. “If there is less time, then extend the session. Constitution allows you to extend the session. If you have the will, you can do anything and you can pass it now. If you have the will, then what is the problem.”

Describing the situation he added “They were telling us to honour Parliament. The same Parliament has passed a resolution. Why are you not honouring it? Why do you want it [lower bureaucracy] to leave it to States?”.

Meanwhile Mr. Hazare has appealed to all opposition party to come out and support a strong Lokpal bill. BJP has support to include all levels of employees (including ‘C’ and ‘D’ catogory) but oppose to idea of inclusion of PM under Lokpal ambit.

Anna Hazare has also threatened to go on an indefinite fast from December 27 at Ramlila Maidan if a strong Lokpal bill which includes all the 3 condition i.e. all level of employees to be included under Lokpal, inclusion of PM and Citizens Charter,  is not passed in the ongoing Winter Session of Parliament.
