Turmeric is a plant related to ginger, is grown throughout India. Turmeric has been used in Ayurvedic medicines, including breathing problems, rheumatism and fatigue.
It is used as a dietary supplement for inflammation, arthritis, stomach, skin, liver and other conditions. It contains a yellow colored chemical called curcumin. It is rich in antioxidants and anti inflammatory and antiseptic properties. But its poor bioavailability makes it less effective due to its rapid metabolism & rapid elimination plus poor absorption.
Turmeric has been used for ages in Indian Subcontinent, where generation after generation has passed on this valuable, yet billion dollar knowledge on how turmeric has been helpful to us for various things from immunity to basic cold. Due to this our ancestors have intertwined the medicinal effectiveness with religious sacredness and practices.
01- Use of turmeric on auspicious occasion- marriage
One such instance, in South India during the marriage, a ceremony is conducted where turmeric paste is applied to the bride and groom body, then it is allowed to dry and bath is taken, it has its significance, here body gets antiseptic treatment, cools down the body and gives a flawless skin, it also cures any cuts, bruises or ailments.

Curcumin (Turmeric) has lots of potential to primarily prevent and treat cancer and inflammatory diseases and Turmeric has been used extensively in ayurveda and Indian Ancient Medicinal Methodology.
Its anti-inflammatory properties, stands out, its ability to boost immunity in ones body. It heals the body’s in a subtle way, it slowly and steadily builds the immunity.
Due to its poor absorption, it has to be had with in combination with black pepper. Piperine (black pepper) helps in the absorption of curcumin in a very significant percentage, i.e more than 2000% according to this research data [2].
HOW TO USE IT:
Portion:
One glass of Lukewarm water
¼ Teaspoon of Turmeric
5mg or 4 Pieces of Black pepper
Add turmeric and black pepper in a glass of lukewarm water and wait for 5 minutes and then drink it. One should take it ½ hour before or after having food, Mornings or before going to bed, it is a good time to have it regularly twice a day and post 15 days decrease the frequency to once a day or on alternate days once.
04- Cold & Headache
Drinking turmeric water in empty stomach will helps in cleansing it. Also, Milk mixed with turmeric can reduce the cold and sinus problems. Turmeric in warm water will reduce dry cough.
