In this world, everyone has their own thought process. But have we ever wondered how small kids process every new thing they encounter?
What would be their first reaction to those encounters? Dhaksha is one such wonderful kid. This toddler was at the stage where she admired and absorbed everything with wonder.
Being the firstborn, Dhaksha had to spend most of her time with her toys while Mumma did her chores. Mumma had a big tub she put Dhaksha and her favourite toys in it and continued to work. Dhaksha always gawked at what was Mumma doing with those colourful things in her hand in the kitchen. One such fine day Dhaksha decided to step out of the tub.
Mumma was busy with the washers. The curious toddler went to the kitchen near the tray where Mumma kept the vegetables for that particular day. To her wonder, one particular beautiful thing was lying on the floor. It was none other than a juicy tomato. She doesn’t know that it’s a tomato though Mumma had given her many dishes with tomatoes in them.
One can think it’s just a tomato! But for a kid it’s something new. Children’s minds are like clean slates. They don’t have any preconceived concepts and they open many doors of thinking. One such thing happened to our toddler here. She took the tomato in her hand with a mind full of questions. In fact, Dhaksha was unaware of the object she was holding. She adorned it with sheer awe. She rotated it this side and that side. Her next reaction was to check whether it makes any noise. For this, she took the tomato in her hand and shook it well closer to her ear. Then she sniffed it to check whether it had any smell on it.
Alas! She couldn’t get anything from it. She became tired and dropped the tomato with a thud and went to play with her toys. Though she left the tomato there, it got stuck in her mind. It became her most favourite thing in this world. She started to get distanced from all other toys. One day she tried to explain it to her mom but poor Mumma couldn’t interpret what she was trying to say. She averted Dhaksha with an animation movie. Both Mumma and baby watched it and Dhaksha fell asleep in Mumma’s hands.
Dhaksha was moved to her bed. She opened her eyes halfway, saw Mumma and went back to sleep. That split second of disturbed sleep gave her a wonderful dream. She was walking by a park with Mumma and she saw a baby crying near the sandpit. Close to it, there was a dog ripping the baby’s doll. All of a sudden, to her wonder, Dhaksha turned into a superhero. When she was wondering what her superpower was, she put her hand forth in the air and out of nowhere tomatoes started appearing.
Dhaksha was awestruck yet managed to chase the dog with her tomato power. Though the dog ripped one of the doll’s ears, Dhaksha the Tomato hero saved the doll. Then she brought a new tomato plushies and gave it to the crying baby. This made the baby smile. Dhaksha felt very happy and satisfied seeing that.
One might think, Mumma and Dhaksha were watching a superhero movie and that reflected in her dream but, still, it was a wonderful dream. Most of us believe that “dreams are a series of thoughts, images, and sensations occurring in a person’s mind during sleep” but for a kid, it is a wonderful feeling. Adults can fuel such dreams just by listening to them rather than making them feel bad for dreaming.
